Description:
The core components required for most Ruby-based applications have
been added to rPath Linux. The ruby, rails, and rake packages are
available for use on rPath Linux and in appliances based on rPath
Linux, though they are not included in the standard installation
media for rPath Linux.
Best practices for packaging Ruby-related applications, especially
packaging RubyGems, are not generally agreed on within the larger
Linux packaging community. Because of this, future bug fixes and
other updates to ruby, rails, and rake may require more significant
changes in packaging than are normal for a maintained component
of rPath Linux 1. In addition, bug fix and security updates to
these Ruby-related components are likely to be provided by updating
to new upstream versions.
Use Conary 1.2.2 or later to build packages with Ruby components.
9 November 2007 Update: rails has been repackaged, and several rails
dependencies have been added to rPath Linux 1.
