The third development snapshot in the rPath Linux 2 Alpha release
process has been made available. If you are not yet familiar
with rPath Linux or the Conary technology, we recommend that you
use our supported and maintained rPath Linux 1 product to become
familiar with both technologies before experiencing this alpha
development snapshot. rPath Linux 1 information is available at
http://wiki.rpath.com/wiki/rPath_Linux:rPath_Linux_1
Most of the software included in the distribution has been
updated, and it has been completely rebuilt from source since
the second development snapshot. This includes latest X from
x.org and latest GNOME. It also changes the way that Python
was built; unfortunately, this makes it hard to update from
alpha2. Also, the group structure was modified, which also
makes it hard to update. We recommend new installs for
rPath Linux 2 alpha 3.
Please see http://wiki.rpath.com/wiki/rPath_Linux:rPath_Linux_2
for a description of the release process and technology targets
for rPath Linux 2.

There are many known issues in this snapshot. You can view
the rPath Linux 2 and rPath Linux Development versions from
https://issues.rpath.com/browse/RPL to see what issues apply.
o Absolutely do not use these images for any productions uses.
We will be making major organizational changes. Updates may
not work cleanly. Expect to re-install rather than update from
time to time. Some tag scripts may not function. Do not use it
in any case in which prolonged instances of software failure,
or destruction or loss of data, will inconvenience you.
o We strongly encourage you to file issues in Jira by
visiting https://issues.rpath.com/ -- but please search
first to see if the issue has already been reported.
o This is a new version of the anaconda installer; please exercise
different code paths and options and report issues. Be aware
that installation may require 256MB on x86 and 512MB on x86_64.
o Several issues are known in the installation process. Among
them are:
Package selection on x86_64 will function only if you are
doing network installation with repository access, and will
install extra packages. (RPL-1222)
Text mode network setup with multiple network adapters
has a display artifact. (RPL-1194)
In GUI mode package selection, if all components of a package
are unselected the package remains selected. This is just a
display bug, the backend actually unselects the package.
(RPL-1187)
While installing packages the time tends to go up and the all
of a sudden the install finishes at around 45% of the progress
bar. This is just a display problem, the system is installed
correctly. (RPL-1215)
firstboot fails with a traceback on startup. (RPL-1219)
In GUI installs, do not use the magnifying glass tool during
time zone selection. (RPL-1235)
We would like to encourage testers to join the #conary channel
on irc.freenode.net to discuss this testing. Additionally,
posts to distro-list at lists.rpath.com are welcome.
Thanks for your interest in rPath Linux!
